International multimedia artist—and former student of mine—Elinor Shapiro offers invaluable insight into how she’s not only successfully navigating the real world, but she’s traveling it, producing incredible art in it, and absolutely rocking it!

In this Illuminating Interview, Elinor consoles parents who might be worried about their child’s ability to venture out and succeed beyond school by offering some unconventional wisdom.

Check out this short clip of the hour-long interview in which Elinor paints a vivid picture for us of how she’s found success because of her asynchronies.

Elinor Shapiro

Elinor Shapiro is a multimedia artist whose paintings capture the complexity of human relationship and emotion. A native of Los Angeles, she attended High School at a specialized academy that focuses on students with learning disabilities and gifts. This experience encouraged deeper insight into her own mind and allowed her to incorporate art into all aspects of her learning, taking inspiration from her ‘learning disabilities’ along with social and emotional interactions.

She studied fine art at California State University Northridge, where she developed her individual voice focusing on figure drawing and printmaking. In 2019, she relocated to France, where she was Associate Director at the artist residency Chateau Orquevaux for two years.

In the midst of the pandemic she moved to New York City where she continued pursuing new forms of expression, combining words, figures, and emotions inspired by the urban setting to represent the many facets of her artistic voice. She produced a number of Art Shows while in New York and explored working in the Gallery environment. In November of 2021 she started traveling South America to further her artistic inspiration. Now she is again relocating to Istanbul and plans to be attending Berlin Art Institute artist residency this month.
