Using AI to Celebrate Your Clever, Quirky Kiddo
Introducing the AI Notetaker: Keeping Families Connected Like Never Before
At Young Scholars Academy, we’re always looking for ways to better support our students and their families. Over the past year, we’ve been working on something transformative to enhance communication, celebrate student successes, and keep you more connected to your child’s journey: our groundbreaking AI Notetaker.
This innovative tool is designed by our very own students in our AI class and our incredible AI mentor, Mr. Salch, to provide you with regular, strength-based updates about your child’s participation, progress, and wins in class. It’s all part of our commitment to creating a community where families feel informed, supported, and inspired by the amazing things their children are achieving.
Why We Created the AI Notetaker
As parents, you know how incredible your child is. They see the world through a unique lens, and their curiosity and creativity are endless. But let’s face it—parenting a bright, neurodivergent child isn’t always easy.
Communication can be a real challenge. You’ve probably felt the sting of negative feedback before—maybe even received the dreaded phone call or email asking you to pick your kiddo up early.
Even more frustrating, your child might be in an amazing program doing incredible things, but they don’t always share that awesomeness with you. When you ask how their day was or what they learned in class, you might get a simple “good” or another one-word answer, leaving you wanting more.
That’s why we’ve been working so hard on the AI Notetaker—to bridge the communication gap and ensure you get the insights and updates you deserve as a parent.

Here’s A REAL Example From Our Unity Class :
This final class session for the introductory Unity 3D course was a positive and encouraging culmination of the students' 10 weeks of work. The students reflected on their progress, having successfully created working 2D games (with minor debugging remaining) and even explored some 3D elements. The instructor introduced the next level course, a first-person 3D maze game, generating excitement for future learning. The class focused on troubleshooting Miles's Flappy Bird clone and Wesley's exploration of 3D environments and the rest of the students completing their projects and sharing them out with pride. A key takeaway was the instructor's guidance on using AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini for independent problem-solving and script generation, empowering students to continue their learning journey beyond the course. The session ended with a festive holiday send-off and discussion of future course offerings.
Student Evaluations:
Miles
Miles demonstrated perseverance and a proactive approach to problem-solving in this final class. He actively sought help with debugging his Flappy Bird game, sharing his screen and engaging with the instructor and David to identify the issue. While the initial attempts using ChatGPT provided some direction, Miles ultimately benefited from the collaborative troubleshooting process, learning valuable debugging techniques that helped him break through his roadblock. He showed a positive attitude throughout, expressing interest in the next level 3D course and even suggesting the addition of new advancements to his game. A parent would be pleased to see Miles's engagement, persistence, and enthusiasm for continuing his learning in Unity.
HOW AWESOME IS THAT?! ^ Imagine getting emails like that every week?!
