For students with a strong foundation in Latin and a passion for classical literature, AP Latin offers a rigorous, college-level deep dive into the language, history, and culture of Ancient Rome. Centered on selections from Vergil’s Aeneid and Pliny the Younger's letter, this course strengthens translation skills while fostering a nuanced understanding of Latin prose and poetry.

Each weekly session blends:
📖 Collaborative Translation Workshops – Read and analyze Latin texts together, interpret poetic and rhetorical devices, and support each other in mastering grammatical precision
🏛️ Structured Literary Study – Explore themes such as duty, heroism, nature, and empire, while examining historical and cultural context, intertextuality, and authorial voice

This course mirrors a college Latin seminar and is ideal for students planning to take the AP Latin Exam. Through guided readings, grammatical refinement, and discussion, students will expand their understanding of both classical Latin and its lasting influence across centuries.

If your student is ready to elevate their Latin learning and explore some of the most influential texts in Western literature, AP Latin is their gateway to mastering the language of the ancients.

What Our Parents Say…

Meet Your Mentor

Miriam Patrick

Miriam has been teaching Latin for 14 years and ESOL for three years. She has a Bachelor's in Latin and a Master's in Latin and in Special Education. Miriam also has varying levels of proficiency in a few languages: English, Latin, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, American Sign Language, and Arabic. To say that language is a passion, is probably an understatement.

Having taught in public schools my classes are often filled with disabled students, English language learners, and neurodivergent students and she thoroughly enjoys working with learners of all kinds.

Miriam believes anyone can acquire a language as long as that language is provided in an understandable way, the material is compelling (not just interesting), and students can see themselves in the class. In addition to being experienced and educated in disability and neurodivergent education, she is also disabled and neurodivergent herself and will be a valuable addition to our YSA team.
