Why Take This Course?

For young readers ages 5-7 who absorb stories quickly and ask surprising questions, Book Club for Young Scholars offers intellectual challenge with the emotional support and developmental scaffolding they still need. Centered on stories with heart, complexity, and rich themes like Pax by Sara Pennypacker, this course strengthens reading confidence while fostering exploration of loyalty, friendship, and resilience alongside age-matched intellectual peers.

Each weekly session blends:
📚 Multi-Modal Story Engagement – Explore texts through discussion, drawing, role-play, and short writing prompts that honor unique learning profiles, process stories in multiple ways, and support each other's reading journey with celebration and encouragement
💭 Scaffolded Discussion & Expression – Ask "big questions" about stories, share ideas with friends who appreciate their perspective, and receive individualized support for decoding, comprehension, and social interaction in a welcoming space

This course is designed for twice-exceptional readers who show advanced thinking alongside learning differences and is ideal for early readers with advanced comprehension who need intellectual peers without mature content beyond their years. Through age-appropriate books voted on by students, creative expression activities, and individualized support, students will expand their reading abilities while feeling empowered and connected.

If your young reader asks surprising questions about stories but still needs age-appropriate emotional support, Book Club for Young Scholars is their gateway to intellectual challenge that honors where they are developmentally.

Perfect for: Early readers who love "big questions," need intellectual peers, and are ready for complexity with scaffolding.
