Why Take This Course?

Satan & the Outcast: Question, Challenge, Reclaim, Reflect

From Villain to Visionary—Rethinking the Outcast in Culture and History

Why take a course about Satan? Because throughout history, this complex and controversial figure has represented more than just evil—he's symbolized rebellion, nonconformity, resistance to power, and the human experience of being othered. In Satan & the Outcast, students will explore how this archetype has evolved across literature, religion, film, and culture—and what it reveals about us.

This thought-provoking course invites learners to step into the role of the observer, the critic, and the curious thinker. From Paradise Lost to pop culture and social movements, students will explore how the image of “Satan” reflects society’s deepest fears, prejudices, and transformations.

Each weekly session blends:
🔥 Collaborative Exploration Time – Share insights, explore controversial themes with care, and connect over the universal theme of being misunderstood or left out
📚 Structured Cultural Inquiry – Trace the evolution of the Satanic figure in literature, theology, visual media, and social commentary, with attention to symbolism, historical bias, and shifting interpretations

This course is not about promoting ideology—it’s about examining the idea of the outcast through one of history’s most iconic figures. Students will build analytical skills, challenge assumptions, and explore how cultural labels shape personal and collective identities.
