Young Scholars Academy 2026-2027 enrollment guide

Young Scholars Academy (YSA) is a fully virtual enrichment school for gifted or 2e learners ages 5–25. Families come to YSA looking for small classes, expert teachers, and a real community for kids who often feel like the odd one out elsewhere — whether that’s after school, as part of a homeschool routine, or while preparing for college.

This post answers the most common questions families have about the 2026–2027 program: how enrollment works, what the All-Access Passes include, and how flexible things really are. One thing worth understanding up front: most courses run the full school year, from August 2026 through May 2027. So while enrollment is often talked about as “Fall enrollment,” families are really enrolling in the full 2026–2027 program.

What’s the Difference Between All-Access Passes and À La Carte Enrollment?

YSA offers two clear paths for exploring the 2026–2027 course catalog:

  • À La Carte enrollment — the classic YSA approach. Browse the course catalog, filter by age or instructor, and enroll in one course or several.
  • All-Access Passes — a bundled option for families who want a fuller package of courses plus extra perks (more below).

What Are the Three All-Access Passes, and Which One Is Right for My Family?

There are three passes, each built around a different way families use YSA:

  • Enrichment Glow (starting at $2,997) — for kids who are already in school (virtual, in-person, public, private) and want more: depth, challenge, and friends who get them, built around the school day.
  • Homeschool Belonging (starting at $6,997) — for families using YSA as their main daytime learning community. At the top level, this is essentially a full-time academy.
  • College Prep Accelerator (starting at $3,997) — for teens headed to college: AP courses, executive-function support, and a real transcript.

Each pass comes in Bronze, Silver, or Gold, and every tier includes a full 36-week Virtual Village running the length of the 2026–2027 school year. Full pricing for each tier is available on its dedicated page above.

Think of a pass like a season pass at a ski mountain: families enroll in the pass first, then choose which courses (“runs”) to fill it with. After enrolling, YSA reaches out to schedule course selections together — or families who already know what they want can simply share their picks and the rest is handled.

An important detail: since every course runs the full 2026–2027 year (36 weeks), if a specific course only runs 16 weeks in the fall, families are rolled into its spring counterpart or can choose something else — the remaining time carries over either way.

Passes are priced per child, and families enrolling two kids receive a 5% discount on each.

What’s Included with Every YSA Enrollment?

Every family who enrolls — even in a single course, no pass required — receives a bundle of extras worth $4,770, at no additional cost. This includes 8 live Expert Circle talks across the year, 5 recorded Masterclasses, a daily Student Virtual Village, weekly progress summaries, a private Parent Circle community, and a set of Parent Cheat Codes (downloadable guides on things like executive function and goal-setting at home). Families enrolled in three or more courses also get the Friendship Social Club, a weekly just-for-fun social class, added in.

This year’s Expert Circle lineup includes speakers like Dr. Matt Zakreski (emotional regulation for neurodivergent kids), Seth Perler — “Mr. Executive Function” — and others covering topics like PDA, healthy boundaries for teens, and navigating the system with a school district.

What’s the Difference Between Enrichment and Credit Courses?

Every course can be taken one of two ways:

  • Enrichment (audited) — the classic YSA experience: one class meeting a week, about 50 minutes, learning for the love of it.
  • For Credit — the same class, with roughly two additional hours of independent work each week (reading, a passion project, coding — whatever fits the subject), submitted to the teacher and reflected on an official transcript.

Neither option is “better” — it depends on whether a family needs transcript documentation for college or a school district, or simply wants a learner deepening a genuine interest.

Does YSA Offer Scholarships or Financial Aid?

YSA is a small, founder-led school without outside investors, so financial aid is limited. Families facing cost barriers are encouraged to reach out directly and share their situation — YSA works with families in need on a case-by-case basis, though because aid is limited, scholarship spots are typically finalized closer to when classes start.

What Happens If a Course Isn’t the Right Fit?

Every enrollment — a la carte or through a pass — comes with a satisfaction guarantee. If a course isn’t the right fit, YSA will transfer the learner to another course, issue a credit, or pause payments for families on a payment plan.

Can My Child Enroll in a Class Outside Their Listed Age Range?

A common question from newer families: what if a child is younger or older than a course’s listed age range?

Mr. Sam’s guidance: ask two questions — will your child get along well with kids in that age group, and will the kids in that group get along well with your child? If the answer to both is yes, families are encouraged to reach out so the age can be adjusted or the learner enrolled directly. Examples shared during a recent Family Q&A included a 10-year-old thriving in AP Calculus and an 11-year-old succeeding in a class built for 13–18 year olds — flexibility is available as long as it’s a good social fit in both directions.

How Is YSA Using AI to Support Learning?

Every learner currently receives a weekly write-up on how they’re doing, and pass holders receive a fuller year-end portfolio write-up capturing growth over the full 2026–2027 school year.

The next phase in development is an interactive AI tool for students, parents, and teachers — designed to support (not replace) what happens in a live class, whether that’s helping a learner go deeper on a topic or catch up after a missed session. Longer term, YSA is also exploring more playful, gamified ways to recognize growth, such as badges or milestones for sticking with a subject over time. The core experience — small classes, real teachers, real connection — isn’t changing; AI is being built as a supplement to that, not a replacement.

Families looking for a quicker way to find the right courses can use YSA’s AI scheduling assistant, Scheduley, which makes personalized recommendations based on a learner’s age and interests.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions Parents Ask.

Everything you need to know about Young Scholars Academy.

What is Young Scholars Academy?

YSA is a WASC-accredited virtual village for gifted, twice-exceptional, and differently-wired students ages 5–25. We offer 200+ live online courses (from Minecraft Redstone Engineering to AP Psychology to Mock Trial) with a maximum of 6–8 students per course, taught by 20 hand-selected mentor teachers who are neurodivergent themselves. We serve 1,200+ families across 47+ states and 17 countries. This is not a marketplace. It's a school and a community.

How does it work?

During Fall and Spring semesters, courses meet once a week, live on Zoom, 50 minutes per session. During Summer, camps run Monday through Friday, one week at a time. When your child enrolls in 3 or more courses, they get free access to Homeroom Social Club — a weekly gathering with a consistent group of friends. Between courses, students hang out on our virtual campus where they walk as avatars, eat lunch together, and build real friendships with kids from around the world who finally get them.

Who is this for?

Gifted, twice-exceptional, and differently-wired students, including kids with ADHD, autism, giftedness, anxiety, dyslexia, and PDA. No diagnosis required. If your child is clever, quirky, and hasn't found their people yet, they belong here. About 65% of our families homeschool. The rest use us alongside traditional or charter schools.

Is this a low-demand environment?

Yes. Enrichment courses have no grades and no traditional homework. However, for-credit courses include assignments and letter grades. Cameras always optional. Challenge by choice. Students are never cold-called, never forced to participate, and never penalized for how they choose to engage. For students with PDA, demand avoidance, or anxiety, this is the difference between a program they resist and one they ask to log into.

How much does it cost?

Semester courses start at $624. Summer camps are $149–$169 per camp. Payment plans, sibling discounts, referral credits, and ESA/charter funding accepted. We're an approved vendor with 10+ state ESA programs.

Will my child actually make friends?

This is the part that surprises parents most. Your child joins a course about something they love and meets 6–8 kids who love it too. Same group all semester (or all week for camps). Parents tell us their children are more connected with this community than with anyone physically around them. 93% of families re-enroll because their kids won't let them stop.

What if it doesn't work?

100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Switch courses, receive a credit, or stop payments. No questions asked. We can offer this because we know what happens when these kids find their people.

What do parents get?

Virtual Coffee & Connect hours every couple of weeks. Regular Expert Talks with leaders like Seth Perler, Debbie Reber, and Dr. Temple Grandin. A Facebook group where families connect and support each other. Progress updates from mentors. And the ability to watch your child's courses anytime (just stay off camera). You're not just enrolling your child. You're joining a village.
